Platinum is commonly found in RC glow plugs, and contributes to at least 60% of the cost. This is the main reason Glow Plugs can range anywhere from $5-$15 depending on the amount of Platinum used and the Purity of the Platinum. When platinum is heated and comes in contact with methanol, it causes a catalyst reaction (Force of Change) that super heats the fuel causing the gases to expand. If the cylinder is properly sealed the pressure will increases to the point that ignition occurs. This ignition (explosion) will then force the piston down creating positive work.
